Nikon D2X Digital Camera

The new D2X Professional digital SLR has a 12.4 million pixel DX format CMOS sensor, by default the D2X can shoot at 5 fps, however it has an interesting 6.8 milion pixel option which reduces the sensing area (to a FOV crop of 2x) but increases the frame rate to 8 fps. Hence the D2X can be seen as two cameras in one, a 12.4 million pixel high resolution shooter and a 6.8 million pixel high frame rate shooter. Obviously the use of CMOS is new to Nikon but also new on this camera is a four channel read-out from the sensor and the ability to perform WB correction to the analogue data before it is digitized. Also new is the WT-2 wireless transmitter with 802.11 b/g support and wireless Capture Control.

Jerry Yang
Mr Yang made the decision to quit as CEO last month, the BBC was told

Jerry Yang, the co-founder of Yahoo, is to stand down as the internet portal's chief executive officer.

His departure follows lengthy criticism of his stewardship of the company, which has seen its share price collapse to about $10.

Earlier in the year he fought off a hostile takeover bid from Microsoft which offered $33 a share.

Mr Yang also told the workforce that he would be participating in the search for his successor.

<p class="first"><b>Yahoo said the "For Sale" sign is still on its front lawn and that Microsoft should buy the company.b>
<p>The internet portal's co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang made the comment despite the fact Yahoo rejected a $33 (£21) a share offer from Microsoft back in May.

The hijacking of giant Saudi oil tanker Sirius Star has focused the world's attention on piracy.

In the past five years, the number of piracy attacks around the world has fallen from 452 incidents in 2003 to 282 in 2007.

But it is a different story off the coast of Somalia; pirate attacks have increased by 100% in the past year.

i-Station Rotate dock will rotate your iPod or iPhoneThe i-Station Rotate from Logic3 is the latest offering in the i-Station line. It makes sure that your iPod or iPhone is always oriented in the right direction, which I’m sure will help you avoid some neck problems while watching videos. The i-Station Rotate has a built-in dock rotating mechanism that turns your device horizontal or vertical depending on your whims, when you still need it to be connected to the dock.

It’s pretty practical and compact, which is good for taking the i-Station Rotate with you on the road etc. It features a Video Out function, TDMA noise suppresion, 3.5mm Stereo line-in socket, a remote control and a carrying case. You can get the i-Station Rotate in January of next year for $129.99.

Tectoy’s Zeebo gaming console

Tectoy’s Zeebo gaming consoleTectoy has announced the Zeebo, a 3G network-based gaming console that will launch in Brazil in July of 2009, then show up in other markets after a few months. Apparently the idea is that the console forever connected to a 3G network. That conection won’t cost the gamer anything, with all the games and content paid for and downloaded through the network.

Action Hero 3D, Evil Prey, and Quake will come preloaded on the console. Yeah, not some of my first choices either, but they aren’t dead set on competing with the Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 obviously. They’re trying to appeal to those who can not afford expensive consoles and games, despite a crazy $599 price tag itself. Games will cost between $10 and $30. Fail.

A hard drive hacked into a turntable

A hard drive hacked into a turntableIf you’re a DJ or a wannabe DJ, you’ll want a turntable that sets you apart from the rest. You could spend some real money to get yourself a decent set-up or you can make your own if you have an old hard drive laying around. That’s what a group of students at universities in the UK, Austria, and New Zealand did.

They all worked together to come up with a digital DJ interface, and the HDD-turntable you see above sits at the center. The students fell in love with the weight of the disk and the quality of its bearings. All you need are “a few op amps, resistors and a programmable microcontroller of some kind” and you can be mixing like they do. Hit the link for instructions.

Sperm-shaped USB drive scares laptops everywhere

Sperm-shaped USB drive scares laptops everywherePut this USB drive in your laptop and you may get some kind of tech surprise in about nine months. Apparently this sperm-shaped USB drive was handed out at the American Society For Reproductive Medicine’s 2008 conference. It may be the strangest and most frightening USB drive we’ve ever seen.
