17 geek Lego statues

homerWhy are geeks drawn to Legos? They’re fun sure. You can create original stuff and recreate almost anything imaginable. It probably has something to do with why the pyramids were constructed in Egypt. Humans just need to create. And since the dawn of time geeks have been the most innovative and creative. Here’s a look at a bunch of random cool statues all done up in lego. Statues used to be made from bronze, steel, gold, concrete… But the age of Lego is at hand.More...

Broadband speed tests questioned

A racing car
Users are keen to know how fast their broadband really is

Virgin Media has criticised some broadband speed tests, saying they rely on "dirty data".

It said current tests were often inaccurate.

It is concerned that tests for 50Mbps (megabits per second) services, which are starting to launch, will be even more inaccurate.

More people are using broadband speed tests to find out whether the speed they are actually getting comes close to what service providers promise.

This iPhone Jack-O-Lantern is created with an application known as Crazy Pumpkin. It basically lets you customize your iPhone’s display into cool Pumpkin faces. Sadly, you won’t want to set it outside for some kid in a robot costume to steal. Sure, they aren’t as awesome as these pumpkins, but pretty cool.

Star Wars Bowling Balls geek up your game

Star Wars Bowling Balls geek up your gameJedi can bowl a perfect game every time by using the force, no balls are necessary. But since you haven’t apprenticed under Yoda, you could use some help. These Brunswick Star Wars Viz-a-Ball bowling balls may be just what you need to give your game a boost while simultaneously getting laughed at by those around you.

Or maybe not. You may just be trading a plain gutter ball for a fancy gutter ball. They’ll cost you between $92-$120 each. There’s Yoda, C-3PO, Darth Vader and even a Darth Maul ball. Who knows, before you know it you may be joining the Bespin Bowling League and low-fiving Ugnaughts. (I apologize for that nerd joke and regret that I even know what an Ugnaut is)

Limited Edition Beatles iPod

Limited Edition Beatles iPodIt’s been a long wait. A long and winding road if you will. At last, the Beatles iPod is out, with only 2,500 units available. You know you want it. And in these tough economic times, Paul, Ringo, and Yoko need your help. So why not fork out $795. The Limited Edition Ultimate Collector’s Beatles iPod Set comes complete with a wooden box designed by Psycho Bunny, where you can store your 120GB Beatles iPod, 13 original Beatles albums on CD, two masters, the Love CD, and an engraved guitar pick that is surely the pick of destiny.

Uh, hang on a minute here. Anyone wanting a Beatles iPod surely owns all of these CDs anyway, so what gives? I don’t need all of that extra junk for 800 clams. Just give me a decent Beatles iPod. Preferably something with a classic album cover on it.

New “I’m a Mac” ads try a new tactic

So Apple and Microsoft’s pissing contest continues. Apple has some new ads now. Instead of attacking Vista directly, they now attack Microsoft’s marketing of Vista. After watching this one it seems clear that they are saying less and less with each new ad campaign. It just gets more and more pointless. It’s basically just a “I know you are, but what am I?” type thing. I’m waiting for Microsoft’s next ads to retort, “Infinity!” so we can just all shut up already. Do you guys even care anymore?

Fujitsu LifeBook A1110 laptop has swappable lidAnd thank god, cuz that one is fugly. Makes me queasy just looking at it. Fujitsu recently intro’d the new LifeBook A1110 15.4-inch consumer- oriented notebook with a swappable lid. GoLive2 announces MMO driving game for Stix controllers

GoLive2 RacingOver the summer, an unknown company called GoLive2 announced what at first glanced sounded like a cool product called Stix. Stix was basically Wii-like motion controls for the PC. I tested a set of the Stix 200 controllers and found they weren’t that good.

GoLive2 is back with a new MMO racing game designed for the Stix controller titled GoLive2 Racing. Let’s be honest about this, the chances of the game being decent are slim to none when you consider how poorly the Stix controllers themselves functioned.

Motorola Aura: A watch trapped in a phone’s body

Motorola Aura: A watch trapped in a phone’s bodyWhat is this new pretty thing? Surely that’s too nice to be a phone. It’s Motorola’s latest, the premium Aura handset, and it’s all about design. It was inspired by high end swiss watches. The phone’s switch blade design all by itself is driven by over 200 parts and 130 of them are ball bearings used to open the handset up to an estimated 100,000 times before failure. It doesn’t end there.

The display is the work of fine engineering too. Just 1.55-inches in diameter, it’s the “world’s first” circular cellphone screen and features 16 million colors and 300 dpi clarity. I guess it doesn’t hurt that it’s coated with 62-carat sapphire crystal too, in order to prevent scratching. The phone is quad band with GPRS and EDGE featuring 7.3 hours of talk time, 2GB, AGPS, stereo Bluetooth, microUSB port, and 2MP camera. It will be available starting December 4th for $2,000. Fine watch quality, fine watch price.

Minoru robot webcam for 3D video chat

Minoru robot webcam for 3D video chatWeb cams have just gone all view-master on us. The Minoru looks like a super-cute Japanese robot and is designed to deliver the Internet experience in 3D. The stereo webcam uses two lenses to form one image that appears three-dimensional…when the viewer wears a pair of 3D glasses. When are we gonna get beyond these nerd glasses?

It’s compatible with chat services like Skype, AIM, and Windows Live Messenger. Apparently the device can take 3D photos and output 3D video that’s uploadable to YouTube too. He’s part E.T., part Wall-E and he’ll be on sale in December for $100.

Custom-made Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3

Custom-made Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3Konami’s limited edition Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 seems absolutely plain when compared to this custom-made system built by Morpheon Mods. It’s absolutely drool worthy and available for auction on eBay. Some of the features include a laser-cut, stainless steel MGS4 marquee, a laser-etched image of Solid Snake himself, a carbon fiber Fox Hound logo on the back, and 14 white micro LEDs to light it all up. That’s Hideo Kojima’s autograph as well.

It’s a fully backwards compatible 60GB PS3. You know it isn’t going to be cheap. Bidding is already up to $2,550.00 with six days left. You’ll also get some other Metal Gear goodies with it, and 15% of the proceeds will go toward the Child’s Play charity. That is one beauty of a PS3. Go bid.

The iBangle bracelet MP3 player

The iBangle bracelet MP3 playerThe iPod pretty much owns the day in the world of MP3 players, but that doesn’t mean they can’t give it a drastic upgrade in the future. Designer Gopinath Prasana prefers a wearable player and so created the iBangle concept. Wearing it is better then carrying an extra gadget after all.

This MP3 player is in the form of a bracelet or bangle, hence the name. It features a multi-touch track pad so you can control your playlist. It’s pretty small, so you won’t be watching videos or movies, making this like the iPod shuffle. Since everyone has different wrist sizes, the iBangle adjusts by inflating a cushion so it will fit snugly.
