The Balance Mobile Phone Concept with Ergonomics Design

The Balance of Communication concept was developed with ergonomics in mind. A shape which fits in hand well is coupled with a new weight distribution of the components. The heavy parts are located on the bottom part of the phone, leaving the top with only a very thin and light display. The keypad is big for the ease of use - many people are frustrated by the small keypads on current phones. The design tries to eliminate the sealed case look by using an exoskeleton as a feature. The strong side beams are the structurally supportive elements of the design, giving the aesthetics a visual flow, and communicating the idea of ergonomics.

iLane reads emails and text messages aloud for drivers

iLaneOne of the most frightening things I ever say was a teen girl driving through my neighborhood, on the wrong side of the road, sending a text message. It’s not only a problem with teens, according to a study lots of adults drive and send or read email as well.

The study was commissioned by IMS Inc and found that the main reason adults cite for reading and sending email while driving is pressure to keep up with personal life without making the boss mad for doing it at work. The catch is that reading or sending email while driving is dangerous.

Motorola’s first QWERTY slider leaked: The QA30

Motorola’s first QWERTY slider leaked: The QA30Looks like Motorola is getting ready to add the QA30 to their Q-Series lineup complete with a sliding QWERTY keypad and un-shocking specs. Some of those specs include: CDMA, 1x-EVDO connectivity, 2.5 inch TFT, Full HTML browser, 2 MP camera, Bluetooth, and MicroSD / MicroSDHC card support, up to 32GB.

If you’re an Alltel customer looking for a cheap QWERTY, this might be for you. The design is more chunky then sleek. If that doesn’t bother you, then go for it. No word on price or availability, but it should be affordable when it hits.

Luxury Sentori 58R Yacht Design is Inspired by Automotive Design

The new stylish yacht is simply a designer marvel as the design seems to have been inspired by sports car. The exterior design is aerodynamically strong as it is in all the sports cars, so one can say that it’s the designer among yacht. The interiors are quite apt for contemporary living while the same has been added with a number of innovative gadgets which actually complete the overall look. It’s time to jet set go!

Kitchen Scale Design with Sensory Mil Weight

As they say good things come in small packages, the new kitchen scale design seems to have taken this adage. This cute little masterpiece is something which can be said to be a necessity that all modern kitchens should have. As mentioned, design wise it’s small and compact thus does not take much of a space, also it can measure in both grams and calories and does the necessary exchange. Also it can tell time as well, it perfectly goes with the overall idea of giving maximum output using minimum space. Something all of us believe in, isn’t it?

ZzzPhone goes Android

ZzzPhone goes AndroidYou might expect the second Android cellphone to come from Motorola or Nokia, but according to John Biggs over at Crunchgear, it’s the Zzzphone, a full-QWERTY keyboard Chinese slider which apparently runs the Android operating system. It’s tauted as the world’s first unlocked quad-band mobile featuring the Google Android Operating System.

It seems to do everything you could ever want it to do as well. It works everywhere in the world and can be built and personalized per your custom requirements with GPS, Wi-Fi, even your choice of seven colors for cases, and 15 other options. Up to 32GB of memory, they are also claiming to be the world’s first phone with snap on modular accessories, like a full QWERTY keyboard, mini boom box, projector and more. Damn. John says that he has ordered one and it should be arriving in ten days. It’s only $119.

Umbuster Umbrella now available, ready to bust heads

Umbuster Umbrella now available, ready to bust headsRemember the Umbuster? That umbrella that keeps you dry and provides a handy pair of brass knuckles is actually available for sale now. It has gone from concept to actual product, making rainy nights far more dangerous around the world.

Feel free to now equate rain with pain my friends. Old man and woman crime against the young will soar. I actually fear rainstorms now. It will cost you $287 and may give rise to gangs of elderly bullies walking wet streets, swinging these things around like beat cops itchin’ for some action.

Trumpet Hero

Trumpet HeroIf you are a band geek who prefers getting wedgies instead of having panties thrown on stage, this is for you. Though I’m not sure you can fit this Trumpet back in it’s case after it’s been modded. What we have here is GH for the Trumpet.

Who knows, maybe you too can be a star between bouts of getting your head stuck in the toilet and getting beat up on the bus. This is simply a Trumpet hooked up to a computer. Since the trumpet has only three buttons on it, it should be easy to make a video game for it that would easily teach others the trumpet. Sadly it has 3 less buttons then GH so you can’t use it to play GH.

Mario Kart R/C racing set

Mario Kart R/C racing setThe Mario Kart Pullback toys were cool, so was the giant r/c Mario Kart racer, but this set of Mini Mario Kart rc cars from Brando gets it right. Each car is rechargeable and about the size of the iPod shuffle. Each comes with a 6-direction IR controller and shell and banana accessories. That’s what I’m talking about. You need accessories to really play Mario Kart outside of the Wii. They are available in Mario, Luigi, Koopa and Yoshi. Available for $24 each. Finally you can have real life Mario races.

Clue goes geek with Dungeons and Dragons Edition

Clue goes geek with Dungeons and Dragons EditionSay you’re a Clue fan who finds the game a little stale after so many years and you also really really love D&D. Here’s what you need to get yourself this Christmas. Find out who killed the Archmage. Any of the 6 players could be the evil doppleganger.

Was it Tordek the Dwarf Fighter with the Flaming Battle Axe in the Library of Arcane Tomes? Or maybe it was Lidda the Halfling Rogue with the Dagger of Venom in the Magical Armory? Or perhaps Nebin the Gnome Wizard with the Mace of Disruption in the Chamber of Tricks & Traps?

It’s as if thousands of geek minds suddenly cried out, at the prospect. But in agony or ecstasy? The game is like standard Clue but with a D&D twist. All the rooms, weapons, and characters have been changed to a D&D theme. You also get a deck of Wandering Monster cards. When you draw one you have to fight one of the six monsters. If you do this and win, you gain an advantage and can look at your opponent’s deck or get an extra turn. Lose your battle with the monster and get sent to the maze in the middle of the board where you have to roll a die to get out. Comes with six pewter characters and six pewter weapons.

Wireless Lark Doorbell alerts you with a twitter

Wireless Lark Doorbell alerts you with a twitterSome doorbells can be downright jarring when a visitor presses the button. Just plain loud and offensive. It can really suck if you’re having a quiet night and you’ve had way to much caffeine. Why not put a little soothing nature into the whole doorbell thing? The Wireless Lark Doorbell will do just that. It’s a fake Lark that will cost you £7.33. The lark has a built in 2W speaker that will sound off with bird noise when guests arrive. The sound of birds chirping can be soothing instead of alarming. Good idea.

Nasa delays its next Mars mission

MSL (Nasa)
MSL is Nasa's next rover mission to the Red Planet

The US space agency (Nasa) has delayed the launch of its Mars Science Laboratory rover mission.

MSL was scheduled to fly next year, but the mission has been dogged by testing and hardware problems.

The rover's launch would now be postponed until late 2011, agency officials said.

The mission is using innovative technologies to explore whether microbial life could ever have existed on the Red Planet.

The delay could add $400m to the price tag, which is likely to top $2bn.

"Trying for '09 would require us to assume too much risk, more than I think is appropriate for a flagship mission," said Nasa's administrator Michael Griffin.

DisplaySearch global TV shipments up in Q3

Samsung 50-inch Plasma TVThe nationwide switch from analog to digital broadcasts will be here before you know it. While the switch won’t affect most TV watchers in the U.S., there are some who are still not ready. As a result of old analog TVs not functioning after the switch, many have been upgrading to digital flat panel TVs. This has been one of the major factors pushing growth in the TV market.

DisplaySearch has released its quarterly reports on the number of TVs shipped worldwide for Q3 2008. Despite the poor economy, TV shipments grew by 11% quarter-over-quarter and 6% year-over-year. Over 53 million TVs were shipped worldwide in the quarter. Shipments in North America grew more than expected with a 12% increase compared to last quarter to 10 million units.

A skinny phone concept for tight jeans

A skinny phone concept for tight jeansIs that a cell phone in your pocket or are you just a mutant and very happy to see me? Your jeans can get pretty tight, which means that the bulge of your cellphone sticks out quite a bit. If you can even get your phone in your jeans. Designer David Turpin of France has come up with this Skinny Phone concept that should help.

It slides sideways to reveal a QWERTY keypad, but other then that we don’t have any detailed specs. It’s just a slim dream at the moment for all of you who have to grease yourselves up to get your pants on. Even if it existed, battery life would leave a lot to be desired.

G1 and BlackBerry Bold get the Colorware treatment

G1 and BlackBerry Bold get the Colorware treatmentIf a gadget has sufficiently proven itself and done well in school, won our hearts and minds, it will eventually be rewarded with the chance to get itself the Colorware treatment. That time has come for the G1 and the Bold, and we are very proud, despite not being their parents.

It will cost you $150 to dress up your current T-Mobile handset in technicolor, or the company will ship you a brand new one $725. The BlackBerry Bold will cost $139 and $674 for the makeover. The price is steep sure, but with rave colors like this, you can’t afford not to have your handset match your pacifier and fancy light-sticks.

When the Touch Pro first launched it was a Sprint exclusive handset. Verizon Wireless has announced that it is now offering the HTC Touch Pro to its subscribers as well. The features of the handset are the same as the Sprint version with Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro as the operating system. Users get access to Word, Excel, and Outlook on the device.

Specs include: a 2.4-inch touchscreen with stylus, dual-band GSM and a VGA camera, even comes in black and white in an Apple-like package. One thing that the original doesn’t have and the m888a does is dual-SIM support and freedom to be on any GSM network.

The small trains move around the clock when you wind up the stem. Even plays the song “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.” Okay, that part is cheesy. For $19.47, what the heck. Get into the Christmas spirit you grumps. These are two mini trains on a watch for god’s sake. That fit in your pocket.

Dell XPS Baton PC concept

Dell XPS Baton PC conceptThis is a concept we’d really like to see realized. It looks amazing. The basic idea is that a baton contains two roll out and flexible screens. The OLED screens roll up in the baton for easy transport. When they are pulled out an electrical charge is sent down the screen, making them rigid and usable as a laptop screen and keyboard that we all know so well.

Just want to use an eBook? Then just roll out one screen. If you want to work from a desk you can just leave the screens rolled up and dock the baton on a docking station which attaches to a regular screen and keyboard.

CNBC says Zune phone is real, codenamed “Pink”It’s a rumor that refuses to die. The Zune phone. We last speculated about it back in July. Now the Zune Phone is looking very likely. Are you excited? Microsoft has dropped some hints that it wanted to combine Danger’s consumer-friendly OS expertise with the Zune. It makes sense. A ZunePhone made by Danger might be a Microsoft smartphone that is actually worth the wait.

Lenovo notebooks shutdown via text message

Lenovo LogoLast year when I was going to CES, I almost lost my laptop. The person working the x-ray machine removed it from my bag when I forgot too, but then didn’t tell me they had done it. I got all the way to my gate and realized it was gone. I was able to get it, but hundreds of thousands of notebooks each year aren’t retrieved when lost at airports.

If you have important data on your computer that you don’t want falling into the wrong hands, or simply don’t want some airport worker using your computer, Lenovo has a new service for you. The service is called Lenovo Constant Secure Remote Disable Feature and allows certain notebooks to be shutdown over a WWAN connection.

Moto Kraver Strikes the ‘Brick… And everywhere else

Moto Kraver Strikes the ‘Brick… And everywhere elseLast night I noticed that Joel at BoingBoing Gadgets discovered an overly in love “fan” of the Motorola Krave who had been trolling their comments for the last few weeks. The dude’s comments seemed oddly familiar. So I checked our own comments here at the ‘Brick. Guess what? He struck here too. A few times.

This brazen bandit doesn’t even wear a mask, freely admitting that he works for Motorola while simultaneously and textually stroking the Krave. Sometimes he mixes it up, but mostly it’s the same old tune, which …

Honda Speedometer changes color to change your driving

Honda Speedometer changes color to change your drivingThe Honda Ecological Drive System (HDAS) will be included with the 2009 Honda Insight. It will alert drivers to their driving habits through a color coded speedometer. For instance if you’re going along at a grandmotherly yet fuel efficient speed, the speedometer goes green, indicating that you are a responsible and possibly elderly driver.

When you find yourself trying to outrun the fuzz at 90mph, the speedometer turns blue, indicating that you are most likely on COPS and should really slow down. Seems like red, yellow and green would have been better colors to use. It’s a great idea that should save many gallons of gas as well as keep you safe from yourself.

LG planning a Formula One phone

LG planning a Formula One phoneLG loves to collaborate with other brands. Looks like the newest brand will be that of Formula motorsports. They want some of that racing action so they can get back into that whole “Life Is Good” thing they killed. It’s as if the company is having a mid-life crisis and just wants to go really fast, like vroom.

It looks like they will be rolling out a Formula One handset sometime next year. The news comes on the heels of a new sponsorship deal with F1 earlier this morning, where LG’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dermot Boden, said that the Korean consumer electronics company is “looking to develop products in the future with Formula One.”

Lego R2-D2 USB flash drive

Lego R2-D2 USB flash driveOur favorite droid gets a gadget makeover yet again. When is he ever going to get some respect? If he isn’t pulling aquarium duty, he’s keeping your stuff cold. And when he isn’t acting as your own personal fridge, he’s a drink server.

Well, now someone’s taken a Lego R2 and made him into a USB drive. Which is neat and all, but he still ain’t gettin no respect. Because when you plug the little guy into your usb port, he just looks like he got shot out of a cannon and got stuck in your laptop and should be flailing his legs. Such is the life of an overly merchandised droid.
